SAN ANGELO, TX – The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for portions of the Concho Valley and Big Country, including San Angelo, effective until 8 p.m. today.
Temperatures are expected to reach up to 105 degrees with heat indices potentially hitting 107 degrees.
Residents are advised to stay indoors and in air-conditioned environments if possible. It’s crucial to wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
The advisory highlights the risk of heat-related illnesses, urging caution during outdoor activities.
The forecast for the 4th of July predicts high temperatures ranging from the upper 90s to 105 degrees during the afternoon.
Evening temperatures around 9 p.m. will remain high, ranging from the low to upper 90s. Despite the heat, isolated thunderstorms are possible, particularly across the Big Country and western portions of Crockett County.
Overnight lows will remain warm, with temperatures dropping only to the mid to upper 70s. The area can expect gusty south winds decreasing to 5 to 10 mph by mid-evening, with a possibility of isolated showers and thunderstorms.
The extended forecast for the weekend and early next week includes partly cloudy skies with morning lows in the lower 70s and afternoon highs ranging from the low to mid-90s. Scattered thunderstorms remain possible throughout the period.
As temperatures soar, the National Weather Service emphasizes outdoor heat safety.
Residents should slow down and reduce outdoor activities, dress for summer with lightweight clothing, drink plenty of water while avoiding alcoholic and caffeinated beverages, and spend time in air-conditioned places.
It’s also important to monitor those without access to air conditioning and avoid excessive sun exposure to prevent sunburn.
