Rangers Hit a 6-Game Skid for 2nd Time this Season

BALTIMORE, MD — For the second time this season, the Texas Rangers have lost six games in a row. The Rangers fell to the Orioles in Baltimore on Saturday night, 6-5, after a fifth-inning grand slam from Orioles rookie Heston Kjerstad put Baltimore on top.

Texas started hot on offense in this contest when Corey Seager hit a long ball to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the first inning. They lost that lead in the 5th to Baltimore’s grand slam. The Rangers avoided disaster after Seager went down with a wrist injury in the 5th inning after being struck by a pitch. Luckily, the shortstop’s x-rays came back negative, but Texas said he will be re-evaluated on Sunday.

Behind 5-2 after the 5th inning, Texas made the game close with two runs in the 6th and one run in the 8th inning. The Orioles added an insurance run in the 7th that ultimately put the game out of reach as Baltimore won this one 6-5.

Despite the loss, the Rangers' offense continues to produce. On Saturday night, Corey Seager, Derek Hill, Nathan Lowe, and Adolis Garcia all went deep for the Rangers. Texas needs this offense if it wants to halt the losing streak.

Losing Seager would be a disaster for the defending champs, who are struggling this season. Injuries continue to pile up as the Rangers continue to lose close games. At 37-46, Texas has lost six out of the last ten games and currently sits in 3rd place in the AL West. To make matters worse, the rival Houston Astros seem to have found their stride recently. The Astros are 8-2 in their last ten games and are widening the gap with Texas while narrowing Seattle’s stranglehold on first place.

The Rangers return to action in Baltimore to close out the four-game series with the Orioles later tonight. A win here would go a long way in stopping the skid and beginning a turnaround. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
