Kids Eat Free Program Begins Today

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Summer is in full swing, and it comes with a heightened risk of hunger for many children. With 4.2 million Texans facing food insecurity, including nearly 1 in 4 children, the Kids Eat-FREE! Program aims to bridge the gap. San Angelo ISD provided information about this program on its website back in June.

Starting Monday, July 8, free lunch meals will be available Monday through Friday at seven neighborhood sites across San Angelo. No applications or requirements are necessary; children can simply show up at a program site during scheduled times. Family members accompanying children will also receive a meal at no cost.

Alta Loma Elementary School (Alta Loma Neighborhood)

  • Notes: Meals prepared and served drive-through style

Belmore Baptist Church (Belaire Neighborhood)

  • Address: 1214 S. Bell Street
  • Dates: July 8 – August 9
  • Times: 11:30 am to 1:00 pm

Galilee Missionary Baptist Church (Blackshear Neighborhood)

  • Address: 721 W. 19th Street
  • Dates: July 8 – August 9
  • Times: 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm
  • Notes: Meals prepared and served drive-through style

Calvary Baptist Church (Bradford Neighborhood)

  • Address: 2401 Armstrong
  • Dates: July 8 – August 9
  • Times: 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm

Neighbor’s Cafe (back of Rust St. Ministries Building) (Fort Concho Neighborhood)

  • Address: 413 E. Avenue D
  • Dates: June 1 – August 31
  • Times: 11:30 am to 12:30 pm

Lone Star Middle School (side parking lot) (McGill/Lone Star Neighborhood)

  • Address: 2500 Sherwood Way
  • Dates: July 8 – August 9
  • Times: 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm
  • Notes: Meals prepared and served drive-through style

Harris Avenue Baptist Church (San Jacinto Neighborhood)

Kids Eat-FREE! is a project of the Tom Green County Hunger Coalition, part of the Baylor Collaborative on Hunger and Poverty. Established in 2010, the program's mission is to provide consistent nutrition to children and families during the summer. The program is privately funded by churches, non-profits, businesses, and volunteers.

Although the Kids Eat-FREE! Program is not directly affiliated with San Angelo ISD, the district is sharing this information to spread awareness. The district extends its gratitude to the Baylor Collaborative on Hunger and Poverty, West Texas Regional Director Mary Herbert, her team, volunteers, and the Tom Green County Hunger Coalition for making this program possible.
