Summer Solstice is Here, Showers and Rising Temps in the Forecast

 

SAN ANGELO, TX - The first day of “astronomical summer” is here with the summer solstice being today, June 20. 

The solstice, which is the longest day of the year, will provide over 14 hours of sunlight. During the summer solstice, the Northern Hemisphere is at its maximum tilt towards the sun. 

According to the National Weather Service, the summer season will last until September 22, when the fall equinox occurs.

 

Weather conditions today include light showers across much of the area this morning, which are expected to move off to the west and northwest. Isolated to scattered showers and storms are possible this afternoon, mainly south of the Big Country. 

The forecasted high temperatures range from 83°F in Snyder to 91°F in Newcastle, with east winds blowing at 10-20 mph.

 

The extended forecast for San Angelo indicates mostly sunny conditions over the weekend with a warming trend. 

Friday’s morning lows will range from the upper 60s to low 70s, with afternoon highs in the mid-80s to low 90s. Saturday and Sunday will see afternoon highs in the upper 80s to mid-90s.

As the week progresses, temperatures are expected to rise significantly. Monday’s afternoon highs will approach the mid-90s to near 100°F, with mostly sunny skies. 

Tuesday will continue the warming trend with highs reaching up to 102°F and breezy conditions due to south winds gusting up to 25 mph.
