SAN ANGELO, TX - San Angelo ISD is no longer offering its automotive collision program due to low student enrollment in the course and advancement in the automotive industry.
The instructor for the program, Brennan Rollwitz, announced earlier that he was retiring after 25 years of teaching the program.
“For over 50 years, students have had the opportunity to learn this trade, but that is no longer going to be available,” Rollwitz stated. “Glad to have been a part of so many young lives and proud of all those who chose to make this industry their career. Sad to see this won’t be an option for students to learn a valuable and rewarding skill in their lives.”
San Angelo ISD stated that its mission is to engage all students in a "relevant" and "inspiring education" that produces future-ready graduates, whatever that future might look like, whether it's attending a college or university, joining the military, or entering the workforce.
“That is why we highly value our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, which offer high school students the opportunity for industry-based certifications, technical dual credit, and work-based learning in areas such as Construction, Design & Multimedia Arts, Health Science, Information Technology, Welding, Robotics, and Automotive Technology,” San Angelo ISD stated. “San Angelo ISD continues to adapt our curriculum and courses available to students to meet the evolving needs of innovative, technology-based job markets. Due to low student enrollment in the course and advancement in the automotive industry, Automotive Collision will no longer be offered to students."
The school district also stated that students will continue to have options to learn skills for the automotive industry through their automotive technology courses under the transportation, distribution, and logistics pathway.
