Angelo State Baseball Beats LCU in Extras

LUBBOCK, TX — The Angelo State Rams claimed a hard-fought victory in the NCAA Division II Super Regional against Lubbock Christian on Friday night. It took extra endings, but the Rams claimed victory in Game 1, 7-6.

The Rams fell behind early thanks to a 3-run shot from the Chaps, who took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd. Angelo State finally woke up in the 5th inning. Justin Harris, Ryder McDaniel, and Christian Garnette loaded the bases for Tayten Treadaway, Jacob Guerrero, and Tripp Clark, who each hit singles to tie the game.

Angelo State then took the lead in the top of the 6th inning thanks to back-to-back home runs from Conagher Sands and Weston Valasek. Up 6-4, the Rams had to hold out for victory. Unfortunately, the top-seeded Chaps would not go down that easy. LCU tied the game before the bottom of the 9th. The Rams held tough on defense to force extra innings.

Angelo State took the lead in the top of the 10th and never looked back. Sands hit a two-out single to right field to give the Rams a 7-6 lead. Caleb Hueretz closed out the game for the Rams, and Angelo State claimed victory in 10 innings, 7-6.

Next up, the Rams return to action for Game 2 against LCU on Saturday, May 25. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. If Angelo State wins again, the defending champs will punch their ticket to the College World Series.
