No. 16 ASU Falls on the Road to Central Washington

ELLENSBURG, WA — A sluggish start proved costly for No. 16 Angelo State, as the Rams fell 38–21 to No. 8 Central Washington on Saturday night at Steve Hertling Field at Tomlinson Stadium in a key Lone Star Conference matchup.

The loss drops Angelo State to 6–3 overall and 4–3 in LSC play, while Central Washington improves its case for a postseason berth behind a strong all-around performance.

The Wildcats stormed out to a 21–0 lead after scoring touchdowns on their first three drives, taking advantage of short fields and missed tackles. Angelo State’s offense, meanwhile, struggled to find rhythm early, going three-and-out on its opening two possessions.

Quarterback Braeden Fuller sparked the Rams late in the second quarter, connecting with Jayden Jones for a 15-yard touchdown to cut into the deficit before halftime.

The Rams opened the third quarter with renewed energy. Fuller hit Zeek Freeman on a 33-yard touchdown strike to make it 28–14, then found Donny Bishop for a 12-yard catch-and-run score to pull ASU within one possession.

Central Washington responded with a touchdown late in the third quarter to regain momentum and added a field goal in the fourth to seal the 38–21 win. The Wildcats’ defense stiffened late, forcing punts and limiting ASU to just one drive inside the red zone over the final 15 minutes.

Fuller finished the game 13-of-25 passing for 186 yards and three touchdowns.

Angelo State returns home next Saturday, Nov. 8, to host Western Oregon for Military Appreciation Day and Senior Day at 1st Community Credit Union Field at LeGrand Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT, as the Rams look to finish strong in their regular-season home finale.
