Retired Police Chief Endorses Hernandez

SAN ANGELO, TX - Retired San Angelo Police Chief Russell Smith has endorsed Lieutenant Mike Hernandez for police chief.

Hernandez is running against Travis Griffith, they will meet again in a runoff election on June 15, 2024, because no candidate received over 50% of the votes cast.

Below is the letter submitted by Smith to San Angelo LIVE!

“I stood up with Lt. Mike Hernandez when he announced his intentions to run for San Angelo’s next police chief,” Smith stated. “I did this because I have watched this former Marine grow within the police service and within our community. I did this because I know he is well qualified to serve in this position. But I came out front because of my concern for the citizens of San Angelo and the negative things that are happening all across our Country. San Angelo is a special place and I want it to stay that way… Please give Mike Hernandez your consideration and your vote as you head to the polls in this run-off election.”
