WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. August Pfluger, R-Texas, chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, issued a statement Saturday strongly supporting Operation Epic Fury, the U.S.-led military strikes against Iran launched under President Donald Trump's direction.
"For decades, Iran has stood as the world's leading and most dangerous state sponsor of terrorism, fueling their violent proxy groups of Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis — groups responsible for the deaths of countless Americans and our allies," Pfluger said in the release. "The regime continues to pursue a nuclear-weapons program, stockpiles thousands of missiles, and has waged war against our people and our values for far too long."
Pfluger, a former combat pilot who referenced his experience flying missions against Iran-backed terrorists, credited Trump for decisive action.
"Under the leadership of President Trump, the United States is bringing an end to Iran's reign of terror in the Middle East and demonstrating, once again, the unmatched strength of the American military," he said. "This moment has been coming for the ayatollahs, who have no regard for human life or peace. I am praying for our brave service members carrying out Operation Epic Fury. May God bless our troops and our great country."
The strikes, which began around 12:15 a.m. ET on Feb. 28, targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps command facilities, air defenses, missile sites, drone launch sites and airfields, according to U.S. Central Command. The operation, coordinated with Israel, aims to dismantle threats from Iran's military and its support for proxy groups.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott also released a statement backing the action, saying Texas stands with Trump in declaring that Iran's aggression "will no longer be tolerated." Abbott directed state agencies to heighten security at key sites, including energy facilities, ports and the southern border, to guard against potential retaliation.
No further details on the operation's progress were provided in the materials.
