SAN ANGELO, Texas – A line of strong and severe thunderstorms dumped heavy rain, hail and at least one confirmed tornado early Sunday morning in West Texas.
San Angelo recorded .57 inches of rain as the line of storms reached severe criteria and prompted warnings from the National Weather Service south and west of San Angelo in Schleicher, Irion and Crockett Counties. Warnings were also issued for Sterling County and then north from Coke, Runnels and Coleman Counties into the Big Country where a tornado was confirmed in Knox County near Knox City. Roofs were torn off and damage was reported but so far no reports of injuries with that storm.
Tom Green County received heavy rain and high winds along with the thunderstorms. So far, there are no reports of significant hail or any property damage in the San Angelo area.
The storm system has moved out of the area and Sunday will be sunny and dry with a high of 84. Rain chances return to the area mid-week.
