SAN ANGELO, TX — The No. 21 Angelo State Rambelles swept Cameron at home over the weekend here in San Angelo. The Belles won a doubleheader on Friday, April 5, before the ladies walked-off Cameron in Game 3 on Saturday to secure the Lone Star Conference series sweep.
Friday, April 5
The Belles put forth a dominating performance in Game 1 last Friday. Angelo State controlled the contest from start to finish to claim a 6-0 victory. The Rambelles did most of their damage offensively early, scoring five runs in the first two innings. Ashton Dirner scored the final run for the Rambelles with her second home run of the season.
Cheyenne Floyd picked up her 18th win on the mound as the Belles took Game 1.
In Game 2, the Belles trailed 4-2 headed to the 5th inning. It took some late game heroics to tie the game in the 7th and send the contest against Cameron to extra innings. In the bottom of the 8th, a bunt by Abby Brand caused a throwing error from Cameron and Ashton Dirner scored the winning run in the contest. Angelo State won in eight innings, 5-4.
Matie Wolkow picked up the win in the circle with her performance in a scoreless 8th inning.
Saturday, April 6
The Angelo State softball team honored their four seniors – Katie Burris, Ashton Dirner, Torrey Hogan, and Keilei Garcia - before Saturday afternoon’s 1-0 Game 3 victory that secured the sweep.
Erin Plunkett scored the game’s only run on a 1-out single from Layni Tanner in the bottom of the 7th inning. The walk-off single ended the contest and gave Angelo State the victory. Torrey Hogan claimed the victory in the circle with five innings of work. She allowed five hits and one walk in the win.
No. 21 Angelo State improved to 32-11 on the season with the series sweep and 23-10 in Lone Star Conference play. The Belles return to action on Tuesday, April 9, with their final home series on the season against Texas A&M International. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 4 p.m.
