SAN ANGELO, Texas — The National Weather Service in San Angelo has issued a Dust Advisory for several counties in west central Texas until 6:45 PM CDT.
At 5:15 PM CDT, a wall of dust was observed along a line extending from near Buford to 11 miles north of Juno, moving east at a rapid 70 mph pace.
The hazard includes less than two miles of visibility at times, coupled with strong winds exceeding 50 mph, posing hazardous travel conditions. Source of information is Doppler radar.
The affected areas encompass several highways, including Interstate 10 between Mile Markers 327 and 467, and Interstate 20 between Mile Markers 229 and 293.
Locations impacted include Abilene, San Angelo, Sweetwater, Ballinger, Sonora, Junction, Winters, Eldorado, Menard, Roscoe, Robert Lee, Sterling City, Mertzon, Blackwell, Paint Rock, Christoval, Ozona, Maverick, Wylie, and Nolan.
Precautionary/Preparedness Actions: Blowing dust will bring reduced visibility, leading to dangerous driving conditions. Motorists are advised to avoid blowing dust if possible. If caught in dense blowing dust, pull off the road, turn off lights, and keep foot off the brake.
