BROWNWOOD, TX — The Central Lady Cats Soccer team traveled to Brownwood on Thursday, March 28, to play their Area Round matchup against Timber Creek. After a stalemate left the game scoreless after regulation, the game went to extra time. Timber Creek finally made it past the Lady Cats in extra time to end Centrals’ season 2-0.
It was evident early that these two teams couldn’t have been more evenly matched if they tried. Both saw opportunities to score early, but both keepers proved up to the task. The first half ticked to a close with the score at 0-0.
In the second half, the Lady Cats dominated possession for the first 30 minutes. After that, however, Timber Creek gained the advantage. The Lady Cats found themselves on their heels several times in the final minutes, but the defense held fast to end regulation 0-0.
Unfortunately for the Lady Cats, it seemed like the ladies’ tanks were on empty. In the first three minutes of extra time, Timber Creek finally slipped the ball past the keeper on a play where Central had to leave the net to contest. The shot initially looked stopped but rolled into the back of the net. Central had the rest of the extra time to find an equalizer, but that plan never came to fruition. Timber Creek added one more goal before the end of extra time, and the Lady Cats fell 2-0.
