FRISCO, TX — Central High School has some serious hardware coming home from the 2024 State Powerlifting competition this week. The Lady Cats Jaylen DeHoyos traveled to Frisco to compete on Wednesday, March 13, in the Girl’s Powerlifting State Championships at the Comerica Center. Jaylen dominated the competition across the board and won herself and Central High School a state title.
DeHoyos competed in the 123-pound competition, where she not only won her weight class but also set the Texas State record for squat in the 123-pound division. DeHoyos saw the previous record, 405 pounds, as beatable, so she successfully squatted 410 pounds to etch her name into the record books.
Jaylen totaled a 185lb Bench Press, a 410lb squat, and finally a 365lb deadlift to total 965 lbs. The final results were far and above the rest of the field as she beat the second-place finisher, Jo Villanueva from Weslaco, by exactly 100 pounds.
Here are the results from Wednesday’s competition 123 lb class:
- Jaylen DeHoyos - San Angelo Central - 965
- Jo Villanueva - Weslaco - 865
- Amya Moss - Copperas Cove - 805
