SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State Rams Basketball team found out that their season will continue last Sunday at the NCAA Division II Basketball Selection show. The NCAA selected Angelo State as the 8th seed in the South Central Region and will face off with West Texas A&M for the third time this season.
The Rams last played in the Lone Star Conference Tournament last weekend in Frisco, TX. Angelo State fell to Eastern New Mexico in the quarterfinals 103-84. The Rams had an off-shooting night throughout the contest and could not stop ENMU’s big men from dominating the paint.
Head Coach Vinay Patel gave his thoughts on his team’s performance at the Conference Tournament and the emotions that he and the rest of the team felt after being selected for the NCAA Tournament at his weekly press conference on Monday at the Junell Center. Check out the video of the press conference below:
The South Central Regional Tournament will be the third time this season that the Rams and Buffs clash. The Rams fell to their rivals twice already this season, 88-73 in Canyon and 94-90 in overtime in San Angelo. This will also be the third regional tournament in which the Rams played WT. Last season, WT beat the Rams 69-59 in the semifinals at the Regional Tournament. The Buffs own the all-time record against the Rams, 58-23.
The NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament will be hosted by West Texas A&M in Canyon starting on Saturday, March 14. The Rams play WT on Saturday at 5 p.m. If Angelo State wins, the Rams will then play the winner of Dallas Baptist and Colorado School of Mines on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
