Nasworthy Bridge Construction Now ‘Moving Forward’

SAN ANGELO, TX—San Angelo Public Works Director Shane Kelton updated the city council Tuesday morning regarding the Veteran Memorial Bridge construction. 

Kelton spoke about the bridge project during today’s city council meeting during public comments. 

We reported earlier that Texas Dept. of Transportation officials confirmed construction halted when workers walked off the job recently.  

The bridge is owned and maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation. Kelton said that he visited with the area engineer yesterday, March 4. 

“While we did here rumors about the work crew walking off the job, that is not the case,” he said at the meeting. 

According to Kelton, the crew dropped what they were doing on the Veteran Memorial Bridge and lent a helping hand to another project, the Main Street overpass. 

“The work is progressing and moving forward,” Kelton said. “The job is not stopped.”

An official completion date was unsure; however, construction on the bridge deck is to be completed in late April if the weather allows. 

Once bridge deck construction is completed, the removal of the barricades will be initiated, and traffic will “return to normal.” 

Keep in mind that construction is also happening underneath the bridge.
