SAN ANGELO— The Robert Lee Steer and the Irion County Hornets advance to the Regional Tournament after beating Garden City and Van Horn.
And then there were two.
At some point the Concho Valley is going to have to realize that there is some serious talent at the 1A level where two schools had both the boys and the girls advance to the Regional Tournament in Robert Lee and Irion County.
At the Junell Center, the Robert Lee Steers brought their A-game against district opponent, the Garden City Bearkats, and cruised to a victory, 45-31. The Steers beat the Bearkats two out of three times this season. Canyon Moran and Brenner Sherwood hit double digit points tonight with 16 and 11 respectively.
The game was tight throughout the first half with both teams scoring nine in the first quarter and the Steers pulling ahead after two, 18-15. In the third, Robert Lee scored 11 points to Garden City’s seven. With some ground to make up in the fourth, allowing the Steers to score 16 wasn’t ideal for the Bearkats as they ended up scoring nine.
Now, Robert Lee will play the Eula Pirates in the Regional Tournament this Friday at Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas.

Irion County Hornets beat the Van Horn Eagles (Contributed: Mrs. Henderson)
In Andrews, the Irion County Hornets took on the Van Horn Eagles and emerged victorious, 54-42. Tyler “Top Shelf” Henderson and Kron Xhemajli, The Ghost, had a combined 34 points. The Hornets were up 24-18 at the half, then out up 30 in the second half to Van Horn’s 24.
The Hornets are now six-time Quarterfinal Champions.
Irion County will play the Benjamin Mustangs in the Regional Tournament on Friday at Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas.
