Bandit Shoots at Cops While Escaping into Mexico

PRESIDIO, TX — The Presidio Police Department is actively seeking a man from Fort Stockton, deemed armed and dangerous, following an incident where he led an officer on a high-speed pursuit.

The sequence of events unfolded on Monday when Presidio PD initiated a traffic stop regarding a stolen vehicle at the Frontier Travel Center. During the stop, the officer directed the driver to show their hands, but the driver defied instructions and fled the scene.

The ensuing high-speed pursuit reached speeds of 92 miles per hour as the driver turned into FM 170 West, leading to a lot owned by the International Water Boundary Commissions. The suspect then abandoned the vehicle, scaled a gate, and continued on foot. The Presidio PD officer pursued the individual for 17 minutes.

During the chase, the suspect fired gunshots in the direction of the officer, prompting the termination of the pursuit. Presidio County Sheriff's Office, Presidio U.S. Border Patrol, and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Protection joined forces to track the individual. Observations revealed that the suspect, identified as Ivan Ramos Hernandez, illegally crossed into Mexican territory while gunfire was exchanged.

Upon searching the vehicle driven by Hernandez, multiple agencies discovered keys to six different vehicles, stolen personal identifications, and a deceptive ID used to mislead law enforcement.

Hernandez is wanted on charges of evading arrest, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and identity theft. Considered armed and dangerous, he remains at large. Individuals with information related to this case are urged to contact Presidio PD at 432-229-3527 or call 911.
