Mesquite School Shooter Shot by Police

 

MESQUITE, Texas - A student who brought a gun into a Mesquite charter school on Monday morning was shot by the police. The incident unfolded shortly before 9 a.m. at the Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy in Mesquite, located near Dallas, and escalated when law enforcement arrived.

Sergeant Curtis Phillip from the Mesquite Police Department expressed gratitude that no children were injured, and none of the officers sustained injuries during the incident. The Mesquite Police Department confirmed the safety of students, stating there is no longer a threat at the school. Reunification with families is set to take place at a nearby church.

Captain Travis Block from the Mesquite Fire Department acknowledged the collaborative efforts between the fire and police departments, emphasizing the relief that tragedy was avoided.

The charter school caters to students from 5th grade through high school, and details about the age of the suspect have not been officially confirmed by either police or school officials.
