BROWNWOOD— Former Dallas Cowboy legend and current private school head coach Jason Witten is taking his state championship team to Gordon Wood Stadium in Brownwood next football season!
Brownwood Lions Head Coach Sammy Burnett said earlier in the week that his Lions will be facing Witten’s squad from Liberty Argyle Christian in their first scrimmage of the 2024 season. Brownwood was supposed to face Lampasas and Burnet but ended up in the same district as those school and found other opponents.
Witten, who has been at Liberty Argyle Christian since 2021, just won the TAPPS D-II State Championship. He also has a son on the team as well.
Not only is Brownwood scrimmaging Liberty Argyle, the Lions will also travel to Wall to face the Hawks in Week 2 and face off in another Battle of 377 with Stephenville. The Lions’ schedule is as follows:
- Week 1: Abilene Wylie at Brownwood
- Week 2: Brownwood at Wall
- Week 3: Glen Rose at Brownwood
- Week 4: La Vega at Brownwood
- Week 5: Brownwood at China Springs
- Week 6: Brownwood/Ingleside in San Antonio
- Week 7: Lampasas
- Week 8: BYE
- Week 9: Burnet at Brownwood
- Week 10: Brownwood at Stephenville
- Week 11: Marble Falls at Brownwood
Brownwood’s second scrimmage takes the Lions to Alvarado to play the Indians.
Last season, the Brownwood Lions went 12-2, and four rounds deep in the playoffs, losing to Decatur, 38-35, after finishing district a perfect 4-0.
