OXNARD, CA — The Dallas Cowboys have again lost a player to injury at training camp as another second-year player is going to be out for some time.
Cornerback Caelan Carson, who was a big name at camp last season, hyperextended his knee and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. With another injury to the cornerback position, this leaves the Cowboys thin.
Trevon Diggs and rookie Shavon Revel, along with Josh Butler, are on the physically unable to perform list dealing with their injuries.
To help bolster the position, the Cowboys signed Christian Matthew who has spent time with the Ravens and Cardinals, and he has familiarity with Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus as he was with the Bears as well.
Corner was one of those not-so-sneaky needs heading into the draft. The team knew they would be without Diggs, and they lost Jourdan Lewis in free agency to Jacksonville. That left Bland and Carson.
Dallas did draft Revel in the third round, and many draftniks were saying that if he was not injured, he could have been a first-round pick.
Still, Dallas may want to look to free agents available like Asante Samual Jr., Stephon Gilmore, or Rasul Douglas.
