SILVER CITY, NM — The Angelo State Rams and Rambelles Basketball teams claimed two wins over Western New Mexico on Saturday after dropping both games on Thursday. The Rambelles won the early contest 60-55, and the Rams won an overtime game 98-91.

The Rambelles leaned on a dominant defensive performance on Saturday to secure victory. The Belles forced 16 turnovers on the day in what finished as a close contest. Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant had a memorable night with a double-double. She finished with 15 points and ten rebounds.
Angelo State jumped out to a 25-9 lead in the 2nd quarter before the Lady Mustangs went on a 9-0 run to close out the half. ASU led 30-24 at the break. The Belles struggled on offense to start the second half, and Western New Mexico even took the lead, 39-38, with 4:08 remaining in the 3rd quarter. Both teams battled and forth until McGhee-Pleasant took the lead back for the Rambelles with 54 seconds remaining in the game. Madisen Honea scored the final four points for the Belles to give Angelo State the 60-55 victory.
ASU improves to 16-7 on the year and 10-4 overall in Lone Star Conference play.
ANGELO STATE RAMS WESTERN 98 NEW MEXICO MUSTANGS 91 OT
It took overtime to decide the winner on Saturday between the Rams and Mustangs. The Rams struggled in the first half, only managing 34 points in the first 20 minutes. However, Angelo State figured it out in the second half when they dropped 50 points to tie the game 84-84 at the end of regulation. In overtime, the Rams outscored the Mustangs 14-7 to take home the victory.
Keyshawn Embery-Simpson led the Rams with 33 points, followed by Willie Guy with 21 points. Angelo State improved to 15-6 on the season and 10-5 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Rams and Belles return to action on Thursday, February 8, at home against Lubbock Christian and No. 1 West Texas A&M.
