SAN ANGELO, TX —The San Angelo Police Department announced on Wednesday, January 31, the death of one of its furry compatriots. San Angelo Police K9 Duke died on Wednesday.
“It is with great sadness we announce the death of San Angelo Police K9 Duke, SAPD’s Public Information Officer, Richard Espinosa said. “K9 Duke started his career with the SAPD in 2013, serving the department for seven years and ten months. K9 Duke was enjoying retirement under the care of his previous handler and partner, Officer Frank Flores.”
The statement continued, “Officer Flores, the Flores family, and the San Angelo Police Department are deeply saddened at the loss of such a well-loved and devoted member of our police family. K9 Duke was a hard-working partner who selflessly served the City of San Angelo and Tom Green County citizens.”
Duke was responsible for locating large quantities of illegal narcotics and much more evidence and contraband during his career with the SAPD. The police department said he will be greatly missed.
SAPD asks the public to join them as they honor the life and loyal service of SAPD K9 Duke.
“Prayers go out to Officer Flores, his family, and the members of our department,” Espinosa concluded.
