MILES— The Gray and Granzin Families are hosting a live auction and meal to help their son who was involved in a serious car crash that has left him in a coma.
On December 13, 2023, around 1:00 p.m., a major crash occurred at the intersection of Highway 153 and Highway 277 where a semitruck hydroplaned and crashed into Kolter Gray and Madie-Claire McAda. She, miraculously, had minor injuries, a hematoma and a concussion.
Gray had much more serious injuries including a grade 2 diffuse anoxal brain injury. He is currently in a coma and is at TIRR Memorial Hermann rehab in Houston, Texas. He was unresponsive at the wreck.
Since the crash, Gray had been able to move his fingers and can actually answer questions by which finger he points. Young individuals who have had this type of injury have recovered. Kristi Gray, Kolter’s mother, has basically moved to Houston to help with her son’s rehab.
At 7:30 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, January 23, 2024, at St. Thomas Church in Miles, a mass specifically for Gray will be held. Kolter and Madie met at Glorietta Church Camp and found out they were born the same year, seven days apart. Not only that but they’ve been together since their sophomore year of high school. Madie graduated from Miles and Kolter graduated from Stanton and now, they’ve been together seven years.
On February 24, 2024, a benefit for Gray will be held at the Miles Young Farmer’s Building with meals served from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with a live auction to follow. If anyone has any items to donate for the auction, contact Rikki Granzin at (325) 245-6042 or Shelly Granzin at (325) 298-9993.
