Kicked Out the Nest: TLCA San Angelo Eagles Take Down Wall Hawks

SAN ANGELO— The TLCA San Angelo Eagles won the “Battle of the Bird” when they squared off against the Wall Hawks, claiming victory in a statement win, 53-28.

The Hawks dropped their first district game on Friday night and went up against a TLCA team that had not one, not two, but three players on fire in Drew Sherrill, Jaidden Villanueva, and Luis Casillas. In the first, Wall managed six points and Lane Stansberry, Brylan White, and Logan Thomas. For the Eagles, Sherrill and Villanueva had 13 points combined while Casillas and A-Jay Romero each had two.

TLCA San Angelo continued to sink buckets in the second where Sherrill knocked down a three and a free throw, Casillas had four, Romero had three, and Villanueva had one. Augden Hallmark and Thomas had five points combined to go in at halftime down 19 points, 30-11.

The second half kicked off and Wall woke up, dropping 15 points in the third alone. Hallmark hit another three, Stansberry went two-for-two from the free throw line and hit two two-point shots. Thomas had four points while Jack Duncan had two. TLCA continued to put-up double-digit quarters and had 14 in the third. Preston Romero, Sherrill, and Casillas each had a three while Casillas also had a two pointer. A-Jay Romero hit one free throw and Villanueva had two points.

The Eagles led the Hawks, even after a big quarter, 44-26.

Into the fourth, Wall’s Thomas was the only player to score points in a two-pointer. TLCA’s Villanueva hit a three and Sherrill, Casillas, and Natavian Sykes combined for six points.

TLCA San Angelo, who always brings their best against the district rival Hawks, defended home court to the tune of 53-28.
