WINTERS, TX — The City of Winters is currently under a boil water notice issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality due to a water main leak. As a result of this issue, Winters Independent School District has canceled classes, while staff is requested to report at noon on Thursday.
Customers of Winters' public water system have been notified to boil water before consumption, including activities like washing hands/face, brushing teeth, and drinking. Vulnerable individuals such as children, senior citizens, and those with weakened immune systems must take extra precautions.

To ensure the elimination of harmful bacteria and other microbes, water used for drinking, cooking, and ice-making should be boiled and then cooled before consumption. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and boiled for a minimum of two minutes. Alternatively, citizens can use bottled water or seek water from a suitable source for drinking and human consumption.
Once it is determined that boiling water is no longer necessary, the Winters public water system will inform customers, indicating that the water is safe for consumption. A notice rescinding the boil water advisory will be issued at that time.
