TUSCALOOSA, AL — The coaching carousel continues as on Friday, January 12, Washington's Head Coach Kalen DeBoer agreed to become the next head coach for Alabama Football. Fresh off the Huskies' national championship loss to Michigan this season, DeBoer now inherits one of the most coveted coaching positions in college football.
DeBoer, 49, officially broke the news to his team on Friday, and an official announcement will be released later in the day.
The Alabama job opened recently as legendary college football coach Nick Saban announced his retirement on Wednesday. Saban compiled a mind-boggling resume at Alabama with nine SEC titles and six national championships and spent 17 years as the leader of the Crimson Tide.
Washington did all it could to retain DeBoer, but in the end, even an enhanced contract that would put him in the top 10 highest-paid coaches in College Football wasn't enough to deter the move.
The exact details of DeBoer's contract are unknown at this time.
