TUSCALOOSA, AL — Legendary Head Coach and arguably the greatest college football coach of all time, Nick Saban, announced his retirement from college football.
Saban announced his decision to the Alabama football team on Wednesday. The legendary coach was in charge at the University of Alabama for 17 seasons. He amassed six national titles, tying the legendary Paul Bear Bryant for the most in Crimson Tide history. Saban, 72, also won a national title at LSU before he joined Alabama and finished his college football career with seven national titles, the most in college football history.
The decision came slightly over a week after Alabama's defeat in the 2024 College Football Playoff Semi-final to Michigan in overtime. The Crimson Tide finished 2023-24 with a 12-2 overall record and another SEC Title. Alabama's only losses on the season came to two other teams in the playoff. Texas is in Week 2, and the eventual National Champion Michigan Wolverines is in the playoff semi-final.
Saban led the Crimson Tide to two perfect records during his tenure, 2009 and 2020. He also produced more than 40 first-round NFL Draft picks. Before he stepped foot on campus in Tuscaloosa, Alabama had fallen almost into obscurity. Now, the Crimson Tide is the shining example of what a blue-blood is in College Football.

Saban finished his coaching career with a 292-71-1 overall record. In 2013, he was introduced into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. He coached four Heisman trophy winners during his tenure: Mark Ingram ('09), Derrick Henry ('15), DeVonta Smith ('20), and Bryce Young ('21).
He will forever be a legend in the southern United States. Whether it be a hero for those at Alabama, or a villain for the teams he crushed, Saban will be forever remembered as one of the greatest coaches ever.
