ABILENE, TX— A structure fire engulfed a residence in central Abilene Friday night, prompting an emergency response from firefighters and emergency personnel.
The fire started January 5 in the 2200 block of Russell Ave., drawing firefighters to the scene. According to a witness who was in her car nearby, she observed smoke emanating from the residence. Upon hearing a woman's cries for help, the witness promptly dialed 911.
As the situation unfolded, individuals emerged from the house, attempting to rescue animals trapped inside. Some occupants were seen breaking windows in their endeavor to save the animals. The witness reported seeing two dogs exit the house, but uncertainty lingered regarding the fate of additional pets still possibly inside the structure.
