SAN ANGELO— The San Angelo Animal Shelter and Concho Valley PAWS has great news!
On Monday, December 18, 2023, the San Angelo Animal Shelter and Concho Valley PAWS had been given a monumental task, find 25 dogs a home or they'll be euthanized by end of day on December 21, 2023. Now, Concho Valley PAWS' Jenie Wilson has given the awesome update that all 25 dogs have found a home and were either adopted or fostered. Not only have 25 dogs found a home, but they were all large breed dogs that had been in the animal shelter the longest.
Although these dogs escaped death in the final minutes, everyone still needs to spay or neuter their animals, and obey the law in San Angelo, and not abandon dogs ever. Also, there are still animals in the shelter that need a loving home.
To provide assistance or express interest, please reach out to Jen at [email protected] at your earliest convenience to give one (or several) of these dogs a great holiday.

Bravo to all those who helped save these innocent critters.
And peace to all.

PermalinkFor most of my life, I was not a dog person, but I've come to understand that dogs can possess a degree of sapience—the ability to learn and problem-solve, and, for that matter, to read a person's emotions and even deliberately do things to make a person laugh. (Or, for that matter, try to be cute because they know they left a heaping deuce for you to clean up and they're trying to save their fluffy rump from an excoriating punishment.)
With the larger breeds this is especially true. You can look into the eyes of the larger dogs and see that there's "something going on up there" in their head. It's tragic that these breeds are often the first to be surrendered or abandoned due to their upkeep costs because they are the most prescient, conscious types of dogs. They can feel fear, betrayal, and loneliness in a way that is as intense and real as the feelings of a human child. They smile.
My thanks and gratitude to the people who have taken in these poor beings who exist at the mercy of humankind.
