SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo financial advisor Greg Estes was sentenced to 20 years in prison by a Taylor County Court Thursday afternoon. The sentence comes after Estes, 59, was found guilty of two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, with the offenses dating from 2001 to 2009.
Estes, initially charged with seven first-degree felonies and three second-degree felonies, saw two of the charges dropped during the trial. After an intense 11-hour deliberation, the jury returned a guilty verdict late Wednesday night.
Following the verdict, Estes' bond was revoked, and he was taken into custody at the Taylor County Jail.
The judge's decision to stack the sentences means Estes will serve them consecutively, amounting to a total of 20 years behind bars. Given his current age, this sentence implies that Estes will spend the majority of his remaining life in prison. He will be eligible for parole after serving half of his sentence.
In addition to the prison term, the jury imposed a fine of $1,000 for each count, culminating in a total fine of $2,000. This ruling marks the end of a high-profile case that has captured the attention of the San Angelo and Abilene communities.
