LAS VEGAS, NV — In early December, reports surfaced about a casting call targeting authentic roughnecks for the television series "Land Man," situated in West Texas and revolving around the oil industry.
Co-created and executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, the visionary behind "Yellowstone," and Christian Wallace, the show draws inspiration from the 11-part podcast "Boomtown" by Texas Monthly, hosted and written by Wallace. "Land Man" made its debut on Dec. 10, 2019.
Legacy Casting, the entity responsible for casting extras for the show, is actively in search of individuals with firsthand experience in the oil industry. Andrei Constantinescu, leading the casting for extras on "Land Man," provided insights into the casting process and the potential for participation by individuals from Midland-Odessa.
Constantinescu emphasized the need for individuals experienced in the field, stating, "We want to ensure that those in the background of the show have knowledge of the industry. A rig can be hazardous, and we're cautious about involving anyone untrained in such potentially risky settings."
Unlike conventional auditions, interested candidates are not required to perform scripted readings. Instead, they are instructed to submit a photo of themselves along with their firsthand oil industry experience through My Casting File, an online platform utilized by Constantinescu's team to identify individuals with authentic industry knowledge.
Constantinescu highlighted the emphasis on authenticity, stating, "Our creative teams have scouted in Midland-Odessa, observed individuals on rigs, and understand the genuine appearance required. Taylor is seeking authenticity, prioritizing safety and expertise."
Applicants are urged to monitor their My Casting File accounts regularly for updates, especially during Jan. 2-6. The crew aims to cast 20 individuals for on-rig scenes, while Constantinescu encourages applications from diverse backgrounds for various non-oil roles yet to be filled.
Although confirmed filming dates remain undisclosed, selected candidates will receive notification regarding the shooting schedule.
