Driver Arrested for DWI After Dump Truck Rollover

Odessa, TX – The Odessa Police Department reported the arrest of 46-year-old Steve Leal on charges of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) following a crash involving a rollover of the dump truck he was operating.

On Monday afternoon, Leal was driving a dump truck loaded with rock along Loop 338. As he navigated the roadway, he approached the exit to HWY 80 at a speed deemed excessive, causing the truck to overturn.

Upon arrival at the scene, the Odessa Fire Rescue team discovered Leal in a state of intermittent consciousness. He was swiftly transported to Medical Center Hospital to receive medical attention for injuries deemed non-life-threatening.

Following his release from the hospital, Leal was promptly arrested and charged with DWI by the authorities.

The Odessa Police Department confirmed that no additional injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

The repercussions of Leal's actions not only endangered his own safety but also posed a potential threat to other road users. The crash and arrest serve as a reminder of the dangers associated with impaired driving and the importance of responsible behavior while operating any vehicle on public roads.

Law enforcement agencies continually stress the significance of staying sober and alert while driving, emphasizing the potential hazards and legal consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or any impairing substance.

As the case unfolds, Odessa authorities will continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. It underscores the need for heightened vigilance and adherence to road safety guidelines to prevent such accidents and ensure the well-being of all motorists on the streets.
