Woman Sent to Prison for Running Over Boyfriend in Bar Parking Lot

SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo woman has been sentenced for running over for boyfriend at Giz and Hums Bar and Grill.

Blanca Cajas, 41, of San Angelo, pled guilty to Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon for running over her boyfriend at Giz and Hums Bar and Grill and leaving the scene.  Cajas was sentenced to six years in prison after a voluntarily guilty plea.

According to court documents, on January 8, 2023, San Angelo Police were dispatched for 1425 West Beauregard Avenue for a vehicle crash. Once on scene, officers found a victim who had been run over by a vehicle and the defendant, identified as Cajas, had fled the scene. The victim was transported to Shannon Medical Center for injuries to his legs.

In the parking lot of the bar, several car part pieces and a Lincoln vehicle emblem were found lying on the ground close to where the victim was struck. A San Angelo Police Sergeant said that a red Lincoln Navigator was located parked at a residence on the 200 block of East 24th Street that had front end damage and was missing its emblem.

A bartender from Giz and Hums said that he observed Cajas and the victim drinking alcohol together at the bar prior to the victim getting run over in the parking lot. The couple both departed the bar at about 10:15 p.m.

Security footage was reviewed and showed Cajas exit the bar and get into a red Lincoln Navigator in the driver seat and the victim entered the passenger seat. A few moments later, the victim exited the vehicle and walked around the front of it. Cajas, while in the vehicle, drive back a few feet, stop, then drive forward, over the curb and striking the victim and a wooden fence. Cajas then backed the Navigator up and left the scene without even attempting to aid the victim she had just run over.

Back at Shannon, the victim was being treated for his injuries, one of which was a dislocated right knee. He was also receiving a CAT scan and had possible internal bleeding. He would end up being taken to another hospital for further medical treatment. The victim said that he and Cajas had gotten into an argument while leaving the bar.

At East 24th Street, Cajas was interviewed where she said the Lincoln Navigator belonged to her. She was still in the same clothes she was wearing when she was at Giz and Hums.

Cajas was arrested on January 11, 2023, and booked into the Tom Green County Jail. She was indicted in March 2023. Finally, on December 11, 2023, Cajas was sentenced to six years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institution Division.
