SAN ANGELO, TX – The City of San Angelo is taking a new direction in managing its City Farm properties by leasing them to the highest bidders. This decision represents a shift from the city's approach five years ago favoring existing tenants.
The City Council is set to consider bids for three tracts of land at their meeting on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. The proposed lessees and their high bids are:
- Tract 1: Roger Strube Farm & Ranch, $67,488.
- Tract 2: A & M Farms, LLC, $36,750.
- Tract 3: Roger Strube Farm & Ranch, $102,546.
The new leases will span five years, starting from January 1, 2024, with a 2% annual increase in the lease rate after the first year.
This move marks a strategic approach to utilizing city-owned agricultural and grazing land, ensuring both economic viability and sustainable land use. The change in leasing policy is a notable development in San Angelo's approach to land management.
Five years ago, Strube Farm & Ranch leased two of the three City Farm plots, or 1,560 acres and Garry and Sherry Halfman leased the third plot or 888 acres. For the leases starting Jan. 1, Halfman was outbid so A&M Farms, LLC takes over.
