WALL, TX — Two Wall Hawks took the next step in their athletic journeys on Thursday, November 9, as Dylan Gidney and Augden Hallmark signed to play baseball at the next level. Surrounded by friends, family, teachers, and coaches, the two young ball players held a small gathering in Wall’s gymnasium on Thursday afternoon to celebrate the occasion.
These two were integral members in the Hawks’ title run that fell just short in the championship game a year ago, and colleges took note of that. Gidney signed with Drury University and Hallmark signed to play ball with Midland College.
Wall’s now-retired baseball coach, Jason Schniers, stood up in front of the gathered crowd this afternoon and spoke the the young men’s accomplishments. He credited their work ethic and character on Wall’s success last season and said that without the support from their community and family, none of this would be possible.
San Angelo LIVE!’s Ryan Chadwick caught up with the two after the signing to talk about last season, the signing, and what they have planned for the future. Check out the interview below:
While these boys are signed to play at colleges next season, the Hawks have unfinished business this year. Wall lost in the State Championship game to Boyd 6-4 back in June, and the Hawks want to correct that final shortcoming. Unlike other teams across the state, there were no seniors on the team last season. Wall returns the entire roster in the spring and is prepped for another title run.
Coach Schniers retired at the end of last season, and Wall hired Jeremy Gordon as the Hawks’ new skipper. Gordon has colossal shoes to fill with Schniers’s departure, but with another loaded roster and added experience, Wall shouldn’t be surprised to find themselves back in the running come spring.
