Woman Taken to Hospital While Her Car Burns After Crash

A woman was rushed to the hospital complaining of chest pains after she collided with a Ford F-350 at Christoval Rd. and S. Chadbourne St. and her car caught on fire.

According to San Angelo police traffic investigator Ed Hunger, a white Ford F-350 pickup operated by J&J Services made a left turn in front of the Nissan Altima. The pickup driver had a green light, but not a green arrow, and was required to yield to opposite-direction traffic when turning.

As the F-350 entered the oncoming lanes of traffic, a Nissan Altima was southbound on Chadbourne and collided with the pickup.

After the collision, the Nissan Altima caught fire and security forces from Goodfellow AFB responded quickly and put the fire out with a fire extinguisher in the trunk of their vehicle. All occupants of both vehicles were already out of their vehicles when the fire broke out.

The female driver of the Nissan complained of chest pains, likely from the airbag, and was transported to the hospital to get checked.

The F-350 driver was cited for failing to yield the right-of-way at a left turn, police said. The crash happened around 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 22.
