PHILADELPHIA, PA — It took a goal-line stand as time expired. Still, the Philadelphia Eagles held off a furious comeback from the Dallas Cowboys to secure a victory on Sunday, November 5. Dak Prescott and the Cowboys had to score 1212 points in the 4th quarter for a chance to win and fell just short as time expired. The Eagles win another instant classic in this storied rivalry 28-23.
Both rivals traded scores throughout the first half until Dallas took a three-point lead at the break, 17-14. Kenneth Gainwell opened up the scoring in the 1st quarter with a 12-yard touchdown run to give Philly a 7-0 lead. Dallas responded on the ensuing possession with a four-yard pass to Jake Ferguson.
The Cowboys took the lead following an Eagles’ punt. KeVontae Turpin collected a 5-yard pass from Prescott early in the 2nd quarter. Then, it was the Eagles’ turn to respond. The Eagles made it to Dallas’s 1-yard line, and everyone in the stadium knew what came next. Philly lined up for their patented “Brotherly Shove,” and Hurts scored the 1-yard touchdown to tie the game at 14-14.
The Cowboys kicked a field goal to lead at the break. The Eagles dominated the 3rd quarter. Jalen Hurts found Devonta Smith on a 29-yard touchdown strike before adding an AJ Brown touchdown to his tally. Dallas drove the football down the 1-yard line on the ensuing drive. On 4th and goal, Dallas appeared at first glance to score, but after review, the referees took the touchdown off the board when the Cowboys’ Schoonmaker’s knee hit the one-inch line
Down by 11 entering the 4th quarter, Dallas mounted a comeback. Prescott found Jalen Tolbert for 32 yards to set up a four-yard touchdown run from Tony Pollard. The Cowboys went for the two-point conversion to make the contest a three-point game. Prescott outran the defense to the outside and made it into the end zone. However, the instant replay showed he stepped out of bounds just before the ball crossed the goal line. The Eagles led by five with five minutes to play.
Dallas had two more opportunities to win the game before time expired. On the first, the Cowboys failed to convert on 4th down and turned the ball over. The defense delivered and handed the ball back to Dak Prescott for a final drive with 42 seconds left to play. The Cowboys moved the ball down the field through a combination of timely catches from the Dallas receivers and mistakes by Philly’s defense. The Cowboys made it to the 11-yard line before a sack, and a delay of the game pushed Dallas back to the 26-yard line with five seconds left. Dak connected with CeeDee Lamb at the 3-yard line, but Lamb was tackled just short of the goal line.

The Eagles claimed victory 28-23. Dallas returns home next Sunday, November 12, to host another NFC East matchup against the New York Giants. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:25 p.m.
