SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Central Bobcats (1-8) hosted the Frenship Tigers (7-2) at San Angelo on Friday night, November 3. This was the final game of the 2023 Football season for the Bobcats, and they looked to end the season on a high note. Despite a hot start, an early turnover gave Frenship the lead. The Tigers proved hard to stop on offense, and the ‘Cats trailed at the half, 31-13.
1st Quarter
The Bobcats received the opening kickoff, and Christian English made an immediate impact when he ripped off a 54-yard touchdown run. The ‘Cats took a 7-0 lead early in the 1st quarter. Frenship responded immediately. Tigers quarterback Hudson Hutcheson made several accurate throws down the field to put the Tigers on the board. Frenship tied it up midway through the opening period, 14-14.
Central made its first mistake of the evening on the ensuing kickoff. A muffed catch ended up on the turf, and the Tigers pounced on the ball. They made the Bobcats pay with another touchdown seven plays later. The ‘Cats’ woes continued as the offense stalled on the next possession and had to punt it away. Frenship quickly scored and led 21-7 at the end of the 1st quarter.

2nd Quarter
The Bobcats figured it out early in the second period. With the ball at Central’s 45-yard line, English hit Alex Lindsey in the flat. Lindsey then broke several tackles on his way to an explosive gain. Jayvion Robinson followed that catch-up with an 18-yard run to put the Bobcats at the Tigers’ 10-yard line. Three plays later, Tyree Brawlee scored from four yards out to narrow Frenship’s advantage to 21-13.
The Bobcats continued to struggle in slowing down Frenship’s potent rushing attack for the remainder of the first half. The Tigers added another ten points before the break to lead the Bobcats 31-13 at the break.
3rd Quarter
The offensive explosion that occurred in the first half came to a screeching halt in the 3rd quarter. Frenship received the second-half kickoff, but the Bobcats’ special teams unit came up big for their team when they caused a fumble and won the ball for Central. The offense rewarded the special teams with a touchdown. The Bobcats drove the ball into the red zone before Tyree Brawlee scored his second touchdown of the evening on an 18-yard touchdown. Central narrowed the Tigers’ advantage to 31-20.
No more points were scored in the 3rd Quarter.
4th Quarter
Frenship opened up the 4th Quarter with points. The ‘Cats toughened up near the goal line and forced a 37-yard field goal attempt. After Frenship nailed the field goal, the Tigers led 34-20.
Central responded with another touchdown. English used his legs and arm to move the Bobcats down the field. Colten Hill added yards after the catch to push the ‘Cats near the goal line. Central converted several 3rd downs on the drive before scoring again. A missed extra point left the score 34-26.
An incredible catch sealed the deal for the Tigers on the next drive. Central’s pass rush pressured Hutchenson to throw up a prayer. A Tiger receiver downfield reached out and initially bobbled the catch with one hand before hauling in the 40+ yard touchdown. Frenship led by 15 points with five minutes to play.
The Bobcats made the game close in the end. With just over two minutes to play, English threw a short pass to one of his receivers for a touchdown. Central would then go for the 2-point conversion. The ‘Cats pulled out some trickery with a double pass. English passed to Hill, who passed to Lindsey in the corner of the end zone. The ‘Cats trailed 41-34 with just over two minutes to play.
Central’s defense gave the offense one more opportunity to tie the game. The ‘Cats began the drive with just over a minute to play at their own 14-yard line. The Bobcats managed to drive to midfield before they failed to convert on 4th down. Frenship kneeled out the remaining time, and the Bobcats fell 41-34.
