ROBERT LEE— The Robert Lee Steers rebounded with a big win over district opponent, the Eden Bulldogs, 64-18.
The Bulldogs started off the game strong with a kickoff return for a touchdown by Jaime Cervantes. But the Steers remained steadfast with a Brian Bosworth 16-yard touchdown grab to tie the game at 6-6 with 6:49 left in the first quarter. Then, Robert Lee recovered the kick and the Steer’s Brody Pitcock, who had a great night, ran the ball in for a score from 18 yards out to put the Steers up 14-6.
Eden wouldn’t stay down long as Jeven Petrilli found the endzone that moved the Bulldogs to within two points, 14-12, with just under four minutes left in the first quarter. On the next Steer possession and on third down and six yards to go, Brenner Sherwood found Fernando Sosa for the first down. Jaxon Tavarez, who had himself a night as well, banged one in to put the Steers up 22-12.
The Steers ended the first quarter driving the football. On that drive though, Robert Lee fumbled the ball and Eden recovered. The Bulldogs missed a huge play then a bad snap forced the ball over to the Steers.
Tavarez took the ball 45 yards on the next drive to put the Steers up 30-12 with about six and a half minutes left in the first half. Then, Tavarez slammed through for a short score to go up 36-12 with just over a minute left in the half.
Eden was driving down but Pitcock recovered a fumble and that took the game to halftime.

Tavarez hit his hat trick on a 1-yard run to put the Steers up 52-18 with 3:47 left in the third quarter.
On the next kickoff, Pitcock recovered the kick attempt and Brayden Sherwood ran in a 34-yard score with 3:31 left in the third to put Robert Lee ahead 58-18. All the Steers would have to do is score one more time to end the game due to the mercy rule.
Eden was looking to stay in it and returned the kickoff for a touchdown, but this was called back due to penalties on the play and an Eden player getting ejected.
The game would break into the fourth quarter with the Steers driving and Denver Odell would score on a 16-yard run to end the game 64-18.
The Robert Lee Steers have next week off and this district will get decided when the Veribest Falcons take on the Irion County Hornets.
