San Angelo Chamber's 2015 West Texas Legislative Summit to Focus on Environment and Transportation

 

The San Angelo Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 12th annual West Texas Legislative Summit August 4-5, 2015.  The topics to be explored include transportation and environmental issues.

The West Texas Legislative Summit is designed to convene regional community leaders and elected officials in a forum that allows discussion of West Texas issues.  Elected officials and industry experts will be on hand to share information about the opportunities and challenges related to the featured topics and their impacts in our region.

This year’s Summit will be a day-and-a-half itinerary in order to fully explore the topics, and will be held in the Angelo State University C.J. Davidson Conference Center in San Angelo.

On Tuesday, August 4th from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., speakers and panelists will focus on “Environmental Issues” in our region.  Topics will include salt water disposal, navigable waters regulations, water recycling, point of source contamination, particulate matter, and the Clean Air Act expansion.  A reception and dinner will be held Tuesday evening for elected officials, speakers and Summit participants.

On Wednesday, August 5th from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., “Transportation Issues” will be addressed, and topics will include freight (pipelines, ports, trucks, rail), reauthorization of the Surface Transportation Act, formula for distribution of Proposition 1 funds, highway funding dedication through Proposition 7, and other local and federal transportation perspectives.

Keynote speakers and panelists will include U.S. Congressmen Mike Conaway and Will Hurd, State Senators Charles Perry and Robert Nichols, and State Representatives Drew Darby, Brooks Landgraf and Andrew Murr. Other presenters include Texas Transportation Commission Chairman Tryon Lewis, Texas Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick, Texas Department of Transportation Executive Director LtGen Joe Weber, Ports-to-Plains Alliance President Michael Reeves, and Dr. Bryan Shaw, Chairman of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, among many other agency representatives and industry experts related to the Summit topics.
