FRISCO, TX — Dallas Cowboys All-Pro Cornerback Trevon Diggs suffered a torn ACL at practice on Thursday, September 21. NFL Network insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian Rappaport reported that Diggs has a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the 2023 season, according to one of their sources.
The injury was reported to have occurred early on in practice during the 1-on-1 drills. According to the Dallas Morning News, Diggs was seen after practice on crutches inside the Star. The Cowboys feared a torn ACL before an MRI later confirmed the injury.
Diggs has a forced fumble, an interception, and three pass breakups in two games of action for the Cowboys so far this season. The two-time Probowl selection was on pace for another outstanding year before his injury at practice on Thursday.
The injured corner signed a 5-year $97 million contract during training camp prior to the start of the season this year.
Dallas still sports a stellar defense, even with the loss of Diggs. Cornerback Stephon Gilmore now anchors the defense along with arguably the best player in the NFL, Micah Parsons. The Cowboys will likely use DaRon Bland opposite of Gilmore and put Jourdan Lewis in the slot. So far this season, the Cowboys have allowed just ten points in two games. While this event is unfortunate for everyone involved, Dallas will have to adopt the “next man up” philosophy moving forward.
The Dallas Cowboys (2-0) travel to the desert this Sunday to face off with the Arizona Cardinals (0-2). Last week, the Cardinals blew a multi-score lead to the New York Giants to fall to 0-2.
