CHRISTOVAL— The Brady Bulldogs and the Christoval Cougars matchup this week before they start their district runs.
The Bulldogs, who are 1-3, after beating the Dublin Lions last week 26-21, are squaring off against the Cougars, who are also 1-3, this Friday at Jack Pardee Stadium. Christoval is coming off a loss to the Mason Punchers.
Brady ran the ball very well last week, where Zeke Jones and Daryl Adair had 119 and 168 yards respectively, as well as one score each, and sophomore quarterback Sean Jacoby chipped in 58 yards as well.
All season, the Bulldogs have run the ball well. Jones has 246 yards on the ground where Adair has 272 yards, and both have two touchdowns.
Jones had 176 yards receiving and one score and Ashton Ramsey had 116 yards and one score
While the offense has had its struggles against some really good teams, the defense had looked decent and flies around. Linebackers Johnny Menefield and Xavier Mendez lead the linebackers and sophomore DeMarcus Reed leads the defensive tackles.
The Bulldogs can win if they continue to play solid defense and continue to improve on the offensive side of the ball.
The Cougars have a talented albeit young bunch of players. They have two backs, Manuel Riojas and Jake Edmiston, who have 449 yards combined on the ground while quarterback Stanton McGlothin adds 117 rushing yards.
Ethan Busch and Edmiston lead the receiving room with 115 and 83 yards respectively.
Defensively, Isreal Bogs leads the team with three interceptions and Busch has snagged one as well. Tristen Alvarado leads the team with 46 tackles and had 15 solo tackles just last week. Sophomore defensive end Colt Floyd can impact the game by getting after the quarterback and getting into the backfield. He has nine tackles for loss and one sack this season so far.
If the Cougars want to win, they’ll have to put pressure on Jacoby and shut down the run.
The Bulldogs play the Cougars this Friday at 7:00 p.m., at Jack Pardee Stadium in Christoval, Texas.
