SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo leaders joined Howard College Thursday morning at a groundbreaking ceremony for a new electrical and plumbing training facility.
The ceremony was held on Sep. 14, 2023, just south of the parking lot on the Howard College Campus. A large crowd of local leaders, staff of the college, and others gathered to celebrate the school's announcement.
"We are incredibly honored to mark this groundbreaking milestone, made possible by the Lowe's Foundation Gable Grant and the steadfast support of the Home Builders Association of San Angelo. This facility will serve as a beacon of opportunity for aspiring electricians and plumbers, providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to excel in their careers,” said Pam Callan, Provost of Howard College San Angelo. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have contributed to this endeavor, and we look forward to the positive impact this facility will have on our community and beyond."
Howard College San Angelo was selected from more than 200 applicants as one of the inaugural cohort of colleges winning Gable Grants to support its innovative and scalable trades training programs.
The $400,000 grant will be used to build a new center for its pre-apprenticeship electrical program and its soon-to-be-developed plumbing program, which will be the only plumbing program offered by a college in West Texas. This will allow the college to serve more students and help meet the skilled trades demand in local communities.
On top of the donation from Lowes, West Texas Steel has also made a donation towards the building.
