GRAPE CREEK, TX — An official schedule change has occurred for the Week 4 matchup between the Grape Creek Eagles and the Ozona Lions.
Originally scheduled to be played in Grape Creek, Eagles Head Coach Tanner Thiel announced on Wednesday, September 13, that the matchup will now take place in Ozona. Thiel released a statement on Wednesday with the following information.
“Friday’s game between Grape Creek and Ozona is being moved to Ozona due to thunderstorms knocking out power to our scoreboard,” Thiel said.
The greater San Angelo area received plenty of rain this week, with several thunderstorms moving through the area on Monday and Tuesday night. On Monday, some reports showed 2.27” of rain overnight. On Tuesday, nothing measurable was out yet, but scattered showers occurred throughout the early morning.
No other details about the Eagles’ scoreboard were released. Grape Creek currently sports a 0-3 overall record. Thiel said before the season started that while his team is young, these boys have a lot of fight in them. This week, the Eagles square off with a 1-2 Ozona Lions team that beat Grape Creek’s district rival TLCA San Angelo but then dropped games to Mason and Wink. Despite the two losses, Ozona is still a good football team, and Grape Creek will have its hands full this weekend.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, September 15 in Ozona.
