Who Will Start at QB for the Bobcats on Friday?

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Central Bobcats kick off their 2023 football season this Friday, August 25, against Killeen Shoemaker at San Angelo Stadium. Head Coach Kevin Crane gave his first press conference of the young season on Monday afternoon to give the fans a preview of what to expect on Friday.

A big question mark remains headed into the season, who will start at quarterback on Friday? Central no longer has Tyler Hill under center after he graduated in May. He now plays football for Angelo State University, and the Bobcats are in need of a new QB. Now that Christian English and Colton Hill both have a full fall camp under their belts, only one question remains, who going to be QB1? Head Coach Crane answered the question today at his press conference.

“We will see,” Crane answered. “I think they are both doing some good things, and both bring different things to the table. We will continue to let it play out, and Friday night, 7 o’clock, everyone will know the answer.”

While Coach Crane’s answer might not be the one everyone is dying to know, Central’s head coach still has several more days to evaluate both young men before the ‘Cats take on the Grey Wolves this weekend. Crane is also correct in saying that both quarterbacks bring something different to the table.

On the one hand, English is more comfortable in the pocket. He has more experience at quarterback and is an accurate passer. On the other hand, Hill is incredibly mobile. Hill still needs a bit more experience under center to build the same kind of judgment with the football that English currently possesses, but Hill is an athlete and can make plays. Neither quarterback has had the chance to show what they can do on the ground since the end of last season. The quarterbacks have basically been playing touch football since the end of Spring training. Whoever makes the start on Friday will need to prove they can lead the Bobcats into the future. Crane says both young men are capable, and both may share time in the first few games.
