'Zeke' Elliott to Sign with the New England Patriots

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Former Dallas Cowboys first-round 2016 draft pick Ezekiel Elliott has finally found a team. The former Ohio State Buckeye intends to sign with the New England Patriots. Dallas had all off-season to work out a deal with the veteran running back, but after the success of Duece Vaughn in Dallas's first preseason game against the Jaguars, that ship has likely sailed.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported the news on X, formerly known as Twitter. “The Patriots are expected to sign former Cowboys star RB Ezekiel Elliott to a 1-year deal worth up to $6 million after his successful FA visit earlier in camp, per me and Tom Pelissero,” Rapoport said. “Some backfield help for New England and a new home for Zeke…who plans to rock his No. 15 from college,” the tweet read.

The 1-year $6 million deal isn’t final as of yet, but it looks like Zeke finally has a team other than Dallas that wants his services. The Patriots currently have a solid running back option in Rhamondre Stevenson, but they also want a running back to be able to force the ball between the tackles. Zeke has a nose for the end zone in goal-to-go situations and has excelled throughout his carrier in running between the tackles.

Additionally, Elliott’s superb pass-blocking prowess also makes him an attractive option for a team that allowed 34 sacks on Mac Jones in 14 games. If Zeke plays his cards right, he may be entering a new saga in his career. He might not be playing for the Cowboys anymore, but at least the Cowboys’ favorite is still in the league.
