AUSTIN, TX — The Texas Longhorns just landed a solid commitment from one of the best High School Football players that the state of Texas has to offer. Colin Simmons, a 6’3”, 225-lb defensive end from Duncanville High School, committed to the University of Texas. Simmons announced his decision to play for the Longhorns on Thursday, August 10.
Simmons is a 5-star recruit, the No. 7 overall recruit in the 2024 ESPN 300, and the No. 1-ranked defensive end in the country. Texas beat out soon-to-be conference opponents Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers for Simmons. The young defensive end also chose Texas over the Miami Hurricanes. The Duncanville Panther’s pedigree should boost the Longhorns' standings in the 2024 class, as Texas currently sits at no. 24 in the country for 2024.

Simmons is the program's first five-star defensive lineman since Jackson Jeffcoat (No. 2 overall) in 2010. Texas will need high-caliber athletes like the 6’3” defensive end as the Longhorns prepare to enter the SEC (South Eastern Conference) in 2024. Both Texas and Oklahoma play their last season in the Big 12 Conference this season.
The Duncanville standout was an integral piece to the Panthers’ 2023 6A Division I state title a year ago. Simmons recorded 79 tackles, 33 tackles for loss, and 22.5 sacks for Duncanville High School as a junior in 2022. The Panthers finished the season with a 15-0 overall record, went 7-0 on their way to a district championship, and eventually defeated Galena Park Northshore (Houston), 28-21, to win the state championship.
