OXNARD, CA— The Dallas Cowboys have released the first official depth chart before the preseason opener.
Just before the Cowboys travel back to AT&T Stadium for Saturday’s preseason game with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team has released the first depth chart and there aren’t really any surprises.
First, there are no rookies starting for the Cowboys. First round pick Mazi Smith is a backup behind Jonathan Hankins. This really shouldn’t be much of a surprise considering how the Cowboys rotate out the defensive front throughout the game.
A big name is Zack Martin, who hasn’t been a no show all training camp and is penciled in as the starter at right guard. A big issue that did happen today at camp is Chuma Edoga went down with a leg injury in Thursday’s practice. The Cowboys did not really do much to add depth on the line except sign Edoga this offseason.
The only surprise might be Brandon Aubrey being the team's starting kicker. Aubrey played soccer in Plano, Texas. Special teams needed a new leg after former kicker Brett Maher missed extra point after extra point in the playoffs last season.
This is the first depth chart, and nothing should be taken super serious from this at the moment. This is subject to change throughout the preseason.
The Cowboys take on the Jaguars this Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. Don't expect any veteran starters to play.
