Russell Pehl has been named the City of San Angelo’s City Engineer.
Pehl, who most recently served as assistant director of the Water Utilities Department, will be responsible for the City’s civil engineering and for management of land development and infrastructure projects, particularly those related to water and sewer lines and streets. Pehl replaces Karl Bednarz, who joined a private-sector engineering firm in April. Pehl will report to Executive Director of Public Works Ricky Dickson.
“I’m not done with engineering,” Pehl said of the move. “It’s what I love, and I’m eager to get back to working on projects that will greatly impact San Angelo’s infrastructure, particularly improvements to streets and our water system. With the City’s heightened emphasis on those and other infrastructure priorities, it’s an exciting and challenging time to serve as City Engineer.”
Pehl served as assistant director of Water Utilities from November through June, overseeing operations including water treatment, production, utility maintenance, reclamation, conservation and the laboratory. Pehl also assisted with special projects and capital improvements.
The City has begun its search for an assistant director.
Pehl joined the City in March 2012 as a project engineer in the Water Utilities Department. He served as the Water Utilities’ engineering manager from July 2013 through November 2014. Prior to joining the City, he worked as an engineer for six years with the local firm of SKG Engineering.
Pehl earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Texas Tech University in 2004 and his Professional Engineer certification in 2009. He is a member of Abilene Christian University’s Visiting Committee, which meets annual to critique ACU’s new engineering program. A Fredericksburg native, Pehl also serves on the board of the West Texas Weather Modification Association.
